Florida Congressman Backs Effort to Have Vietnam Veterans Day in March

Last week, U.S. Rep. Madeline Dean, D-Penn., brought out the resolution. On Sunday, she weighed in on why she had introduced it.

A Florida congressman is backing a resolution marking March 29th as “Vietnam Veterans Day.”

Last week, U.S. Rep. Madeline Dean, D-Penn., brought out the resolution. On Sunday, she weighed in on why she had introduced it.

“Montgomery and Berks Counties are home to many selfless veterans — including Vietnam War Veterans — and Vietnam Veterans Day will help us recognize their noble sacrifice to our nation,” Dean said. “ Our heroes deserve this day – to honor, remember and lift up our Vietnam troops.”

“More than 58,000 members of the Armed Forces of the United States lost their lives in the Vietnam war, and more than 300,000 members of the Armed Forces of the United States were wounded in Vietnam. Vietnam Veterans’ Day would honor these lives,” Dean’s office noted.

More than 10 House members, including U.S. Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla.,  threw their support behind Dean’s resolution as cosponsors.

Over the weekend, Steube, who served in the Army and now sits on the U.S. House Veterans Affairs Committee, weighed in on the resolution.

“My district is home to many Vietnam War veterans. I am proud to be an original cosponsor of Congresswoman Madeleine Dean’s legislation that gives our heroic Vietnam veterans the recognition they deserve,” Steube said on Saturday.

Dean’s resolution was sent to the Veterans Affairs Committee last week.

Over in the U.S. Senate, U.S. Sen. Richard Burr, R-NC, introduced a similar resolution last month.
