U.S. Labor Sec. Eugene Scalia and Gov. Ron DeSantis were in Jacksonville on Thursday to discuss the importance of work safety as Florida and the nation try to bounce back from the coronavirus pandemic.
Scalia and DeSantis met with local leaders and visited Crowley Maritime, a transportation and logistics company with a major presence on the First Coast.
“The business leaders I spoke with in Florida today recognize the importance of workplace safety and health as we re-open businesses and the economy,” said Scalia. “I would like to thank Governor Ron DeSantis for joining me today and for his leadership as Florida focuses on a safe reopening.”
“In Florida, we are taking a safe, smart, step-by-step approach to re-opening, and this extensive data-driven plan will ensure Florida businesses, and residents have the confidence and support to allow our workforce and the state to hit its economic stride,’ said DeSantis. “This would not be possible without the indispensable support of the U.S. Department of Labor through the attention of Secretary Eugene Scalia and the Timerump administration that has seen to it that Florida’s needs are heard and met.”
Speaking with the media on Thursday, both Scalia and the governor stressed the importance of reopening schools to help the economy.
