This week, from his perch on the U.S. House Appropriations Committee, U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist, D-Fla., announced a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum in St. Petersburg
Crist announced the museum will be getting $250,000
“Funding will be used to hire staff and expand the museum’s internship program as they prepare to transition into an expanded facility,” Crist‘s office noted.
“The Carter Woodson Museum is a treasured part of our community, preserving St. Pete – and Florida’s – Black history for generations to come,” said Crist. “This funding will allow the museum to expand its operations, hire new staff, and increase youth participation through their internship program. Knowledge of our history helps us build a brighter future!”
“Congressman Crist remains a steadfast ally in our initiatives as we strive to become Florida’s first purpose-built African American Museum,” said Terri Lipsey Scott, the executive director of the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum. “With the support we have garnered as a result of this grant, we can further our goals toward making our vision a reality.”
