Border patrol agents have been telling news outlets such as Fox News that the Biden administration has been silently auctioning off unused border wall materials that were going to be used by the Trump administration for restarting border wall construction.
In addition to Fox, The Daily Wire reported that several trucks were seen carrying sections of the border wall like steel beams and concrete material to locations where it has been auctioned off.
“As much as half a mile of unused wall material is being removed daily and the goal is to move all of it off the border before Christmas,” a border agent told the Daily Wire.
The story was first reported that this was being done in the last days of the Biden presidency, but Fox News reporter William Lajeunesse said the removal and selling of part of the border wall began back in 2023.
Many Republicans are angry at what Biden has done, but inserted into legislation last year inside the National Defense Authorization Act, also known as the NDAA, was a measure where the government was to eliminate excess border wall materials by certain dates.
Over the last four years, border wall materials have been lying around on ranchers’ property, being used as storage, costing the government millions of dollars each year.
Government surplus equipment auction site, GovPlanet, is assisting in bidding of border wall material. “It’s a fire sale going on with bidding starting at just $5, said Lajeunesse.
Incoming members of the Trump administration say the selling of border material could have a negative impact on delaying the reconstruction of the border wall.
Some states wanted to purchase the wall for themselves to fight illegal immigration. “We’ve been trying to buy this wall for them from them for four years, and they wouldn’t sell it to us,” said Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.
Experts say the federal government’s failure to complete the wall has cost taxpayers $2 billion dollars.
