TAMPA, Fla. — A federal grand jury has indicted a Bahamian man for illegally reentering the United States after being deported multiple times and having felony convictions, as announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office this week.
Kenthen Lavardo Swain, 39, from The Bahamas, faces charges of illegal reentry as an aggravated felon. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in federal prison.
According to the indictment, Swain was found voluntarily present in the United States on or around May 16, 2025, despite being removed from the country on three previous occasions. Authorities state that Swain did not obtain permission from either the U.S. Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security to reapply for entry.
Swain also has a history of felony convictions, including possession of controlled substances with intent to sell or deliver. This history elevates the seriousness of the reentry charge under federal law.
The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ICE ERO) and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeff Chang.
This indictment is part of Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration, dismantling transnational criminal organizations, and reducing violent crime through coordinated enforcement efforts.
