TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State University’s Institute for Governance and Civics will host an engaging and timely discussion on Tuesday, November 4, featuring Daniel Di Martino, an economist and Venezuelan native who witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of socialism on his home country.

The event, titled “How Socialism Destroyed Venezuela,” will take place from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the FSU Student Union, Club Down Under. Admission is free and open to the public.

Di Martino will share his personal story of growing up in Venezuela and escaping the country’s economic collapse. He will explain how government control, corruption, and mismanagement transformed one of Latin America’s wealthiest nations into a state of crisis and scarcity. His talk will also explore lessons other nations can learn from Venezuela’s experience and the importance of safeguarding economic freedom.

Currently a Ph.D. candidate in economics at Columbia University and a Graduate Fellow at the Manhattan Institute, Di Martino has become a leading voice on the dangers of socialism and its real-world consequences. Since leaving Venezuela in 2016, he has dedicated his work to educating others about the policies that devastated his homeland and advocating for freedom worldwide.
