A new report by the Federations for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) (www.fairus.org) says the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) are ramping up their efforts going after immigration lawyers who are intentionally misrepresenting the facts for their clients when it comes to asylum claims.
DHS says they are developing “anti-fraud policies” to combat document fraud.
FAIR says DHS put out a notice warning how immigration attorneys representing illegal aliens are routinely misrepresenting their clients’ risk of persecution in their home countries to increase their chances of being granted asylum.
“Immigration lawyers coach clients to lie or conceal information on their applications. Asylum abuse and fraud have significantly fueled the immigration case backlog, which exploded under the Biden administration before decreasing in 2025,” said FAIR.
Another area the White House is looking to crack down on asylum fraud is appointing more immigration judges.
In May, 77 immigration judges and 5 temporary immigration judges were sworn in making the overall total of immigration judges to almost 700. This will also help move forward the high amount of immigration cases that are backlog.
DHS announced new reforms on those seeking asylum looking to obtain a work permit.
The waiting time will increase and DHS officials said they are pausing new work permit applications under certain conditions, reducing the incentive for aliens to file meritless asylum claims as cover for economic migration.
