When Vice President Kamala Harris was in Florida last July, she accused Governor DeSantis of wanting to whitewash Black history over new curriculums that were approved by the Florida Board of Education. “They want to replace history with lies,” said the VP.
Democrats said the new Florida standards will revise history and ignore the oppression that African Americans had to endure.
But Florida State Senator Blaise Ingoglia (R-Spring Hill) is calling out Democrats with hew new bill proposal called the Kamala Harris Truth in Slavery Teaching Act.
The bill would require African American history instruction to include a comprehensive account of the sociopolitical circumstances surrounding slavery, including which political parties supported and adopted pro-slavery tenets to their party platform.
“The only group revising and ignoring history are the democrats,” said Ingoglia.
Ingoglia says if Democrats want to talk about the truth concerning slavery, then discuss the history how the Democrat Party not only fought for the continued abomination that was slavery, but they also adopted pro-slavery resolutions and tenets into their official party platform.
Ingoglia’s proposal is also being pushed in the Florida House by State Rep. Kiyan Michael (R-Jacksonville).
“Like most Black Americans, I was raised never knowing the truth that the Democrat Party was the party of fighting for, and keeping slavery, and the reason for the formation of the Republican Party was to abolish it. It is a valuable, yet hidden, piece of our American history. This bill will bring forth these truths and expose the political party’s roles regarding the heinous institution of slavery,” said Michael.
