Later this month, a prominent national conservative magazine will hold an event in Southwest Florida to honor a congressman from the Sunshine State.
The American Conservative magazine, founded by Pat Buchanan, Scott McConnell and Taki Theodoracopulos, will present “Keeping America First in 2020” on January 21 in Naples.
The magazine featured a cover story on Gaetz last year. Gaetz has often been featured by the American Conservative, not all of it positive.
According to John Burtka, the executive director of the American Conservative, Gaetz “has built a reputation as an outspoken defender of an America First foreign policy arguing that, ‘stronger borders, energy dominance and a thriving American economy do more for American security than ill-fated interventionist excursions in the name of regime change and nation-building'” and praised the congressman for being “passionate about making sure government is accountable, transparent and honest.”
First elected to Congress in 2016, Gaetz has become a staunch defender of President Donald Trump, using his perch on the U.S. House Judiciary Committee to become one of the president’s most outspoken champions on Capitol Hill.
The American Conservative was launched in 2002 and, according to its website, “exists to promote a ‘Main Street’ conservatism that opposes unchecked power in government and business; promotes the flourishing of families and communities through vibrant markets and free people; and embraces realism and restraint in foreign affairs based on America’s vital national interests.” Its advisory board is currently led by Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
