They have been called the “CIA of grassroots campaigning.” They get in, knock on doors, hand out material and they are gone before others canvass in the neighborhood. That is Americans for Prosperity (AFP) in Florida have been described. The latest example was seen in this past Tuesday’s primary election, which saw their hard work pay off with near-perfect results. Out of 12 endorsements from the group during the 2024 primary, 11 went on to win.
“We just don’t back anybody, we back those that have the same views as we do, promoting free market policies and choice in education,” said AFP’s Skylar Zander.
Some of those big wins included State House candidates Sam Greco in House District 19; Judson Sapp in House District 20; Richard Gentry in House District 27; Debbie Mayfield in House District 32; Erika Booth in House District 35; Jennifer Kincart Jonsson in House District 49; incumbent Brad Yeager in House District 56; Vanessa Oliver in House District 76; and Yvette Benarroch in House District 81.
Not only did AFP have paid staff on the ground, but dozens of volunteers canvassing in these districts.
Zander claimed that AFP distributed more than a million mail pieces across the state and reached over 300,000 voters during the primary.
AFP was also involved in the big state senate race where they endorsed Senate candidate Tom Leek in Senate District 7.
Zander tells Florida Daily the real challenge will be in November. AFP Action FL has another 17 candidates who didn’t have a primary opponent but have opposition in the upcoming general election.
