The Democratic Party has always been the party of the “working man” because they talked about bread-and-butter issues that blue-collar workers felt were important to them.
Ever since the 2020 presidential election, the Democrats have been in a free fall politically with many of the voters they wooed leaving them because President Joe Biden is not governing from the center, he is governing as if we actually elected Bernie Sanders or AOC instead.
What is so curious is that Biden doesn’t seem cognizant of how poorly his administration is doing with Americans. It’s that or he believes that he can recover in time for the 2022 midterm elections which are just 10 months away.
It seems that the president has manifested his problems by not doing regular press conferences, by not answering reporters’ questions at length. Biden also simply does not understand that Americans expect to see their president, and more importantly hear from him, besides when he is reading from a teleprompter.
The Biden administration could skate, because they already have the mainstream media hiding damaging stories from the public, but for the fact that he has an incompetent vice president.
It wasn’t that long ago that Vice President Dan Quayle was an automatic laugh line on late-night television. He wasn’t perceived by the public as being that bright (remember he misspelled the word potato with an “e”) and he was thus regarded as the least qualified vice president a president could select, certainly since Vice President Thomas Marshall back in 1913!
But today, Quayle looks like a Rhodes Scholar compared to Kamala Harris. She can’t answer a question without first laughing, a now obvious crutch that gives her time to think about her answer, and yet what comes out of her mouth is so corrupted that she has, at 28 percent, the lowest popularity rating of any modern vice president (Vice President Dick Cheney held the previous record at 30 percent).
So, Biden gets no help from his VP, he just gets more problems with her at his side.
Lacking cogent, sustained and understandable communication skills, Biden is failing to convince Americans, especially some historic base voting cohorts that have traditionally supported Democratic policies.
For example, a recent story in the Wall Street Journal documents that Democrats have squandered their chance to get many Latinos back into the fold. For all of his faults, former President Donald Trump’s policies were exceedingly popular especially on the integrity of the southern border, being vocal against socialist policies like “defund the police” or government becoming the ultimate Big Brother, and producing an economy that lifted all boats including most minorities.
The WSJ story goes on to say that while Trump garnered 8 percent more Hispanic voters (according to national Hispanic polls don’t call them Latinix – they hate that!) which is more than any other Republican presidential candidate, and yet at the same time Biden only secured 61 percent of the Hispanic vote, which means that he got 750,000 fewer votes than did Hillary Clinton in 2016. Consequently, Biden loses on both sides: the Republicans picked up more Hispanic votes and Biden got less than poor Hillary! “That erosion is a danger sign for the party, given that President Biden’s winning margin in five states was less than 100,000 votes.”
The far-left is also pushing an open southern border. The conventional wisdom was that Latinos already here would be supportive of their brothers and sister easily coming to America, but in fact, they feel just the opposite. Most Latinos in America already here, came here legally and through a process and the fact that people are just walking across the border offends them.
Socialism is another fundamental problem that the far-left has mishandled. When Bernie and AOC speak glowingly about Cuba or Venezuela and how Big Brother creates a necessary safety net, Hispanics are thinking about another kind of older sibling. The kind that arrests people without warrants in the middle of the night, cause unnecessary public suffering so that Socialist/Communist elites can live the high life, take away basic human rights without an independent judiciary to stop it, and cause inflation to rise so much that paper money is worthless, the far-left are pushing, no throwing, Hispanic voters to the Republican party.
Add to that a Trump economy that was humming, a stock market that was busting, minority unemployment at historic levels, and it is easy to see that Hispanic voters can no longer be taken for granted to be an automatic vote for the Democrats.
African-American voters are also turning to Republicans, albeit in lower numbers, but still a shift that portends trouble for Democrats. Obama reached the zenith with black voters when he got 95 percent of their vote in his first election in 2008 and four years later, he got about 91.5 percent of all black voters. Hillary Clinton was supported by 82 percent of black men and 94 percent of black women, but Biden only got 80 percent of black men (a historic low) though he kept 91 percent of black women voters.
Meanwhile, Trump made serious inroads among black voters with 12 percent of them voting for him in 2020. Much of it is that Democratic policies going back to the Great Society of the 1960s hasn’t made a dramatic difference on poverty, and Democratic mayors in Detroit, Baltimore, Newark, among other cities haven’t moved the needle in a discernable way over many decades despite spending billions of dollars. Remember it was Trump in Michigan who appealed to black voters by saying “You’re living in poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs, 58 percent of your youth are unemployed. What the hell do you have to lose?”
But it isn’t just about jobs or the economy. Black voters are concerned, no make that very concerned about the far-left continually pushing easier voting laws, Critical Race Theory (CRT), and new gender pronouns.
A Rasmussen Report shows that 69 percent of black voters support voter ID laws such a requiring photo identification (75 percent of all voters support voter ID laws).
CRT is not being embraced by black voters either because the perception is that it will just lead to re-segregation, putting an unneeded focus on skin color, and teaching hate when Martin Luther King’s message was one of love for your fellow man.
Don’t even think about the new and utterly confusing use of pronouns, which the far-left is happy to push on young, unsuspecting, and vulnerable students. A recent Rasmussen poll indicates more black adults than whites, 68 percent and 63 percent respectively (and 55 percent of other minorities) believe that there are only two genders – male and female. Again, on schools counseling children on gender identity without parental consent, 70 percent of blacks lead all races in opposing, while whites are at 68 percent (and 65 percent of other minorities). Even political affiliation shows that 80 percent of Republicans, 72 percent of unaffiliated voters, and even 54 percent (shocking!) of Democrats oppose counseling without parental consent.
How bad has it really gotten? A Rasmussen poll, just before Christmas, found that 44 percent of likely voters would choose Trump over 31 percent for Biden.
Democrats need to back off of the culture wars pronto, while Biden needs to get to the political center quickly if his party is to have any real chance of keeping the Senate, because the House is essentially lost. Even if the Democrats keep the Senate, Biden is in deep trouble because Democratic U.S. Sens. Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema aren’t lemmings willing to march to the drum of Bernie and his friends.
