There seems to be some confusion between the Biden Campaign and Florida Democrats regarding their role in Florida’s 2024 election.
Puck News reports that Biden campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon said “no” when asked if Florida was still in play for Democrats this year.
Florida Democrats downplay the interview and showcase recent polls, like Fox News, showing Biden just down by four points to former President Donald Trump, who carried the state in 2020 by 3.5%
Over the last year, Democrats have taken a pounding on state voter registration, with GOP numbers up well over 900,000 compared to Democrats.
But Democrats seem to be optimistic with recent wins. In 2023, they won the Jacksonville mayor’s office, which went from Republican to Democratic, and in January of this year, a special election flipped a state house seat from Republican to Democratic.
Polling on the abortion amendment shows support that surpasses the 60% threshold to become law. Most in favor of the amendment are Democrats including independents, as well.
The Biden-Harris campaign in Florida says the state is up for play.
Democrats point out that Republicans won the state in 2000 and 2004 but were caught off guard when Barack Obama won Florida in 2012 after polls were showing that then-candidate Mitt Romney was leading up to election day but lost to Obama.
Florida Democrats are hoping Republicans will get overconfident about the recent polls showing Trump winning in the state.
While Democrats are boasting about the Fox poll showing Biden within striking distance, pollster Ryan Tyson, who’s done work for Gov. Ron DeSantis, says his numbers show Trump way up over Biden by 10 points.
