Last week, U.S. Rep. Bill Posey, R-Fla., brought out the “Rulemaking Accountability and Reform Act.”
Posey noted it was “part of his agenda to reform the federal rulemaking process and combat executive branch overreach and overregulation by federal agencies” and weighed in on why he introduced the proposal.
“Often federal agencies make rules and regulations, enforceable as laws, that go beyond their legislative mandate. One way we can strengthen our economy and preserve our liberty is by tackling overregulation and excessive over-reach by federal bureaucrats,” said Bill Posey.
The bill “reins in overregulation by requiring federal rulemaking agencies to clearly state or cite the statutes and specific grants of authority from Congress that the agency has relied upon to assert the power to promulgate the rule and all its provisions.”
So far, there are no co-sponsors and no companion measure over in the U.S. Senate.
