With almost thirty members holding office in Tallahassee, the Florida Legislative Black Caucus (FLBC) announced its leaders who will take over after the 2020 elections and serve until the 2022 elections.
State Sen. Bobby Powell, Jr., D-West Palm Beach, was elected to be the next chairman of the FLBC with state Rep. Kamia Brown, D-Orlando, as the incoming vice chairwoman. State Rep. Tracie Davis, D-Jacksonville, was selected to be the next secretary of the FBLC while state Rep. Patricia Williams, D-Pompano Beach, will be its treasurer. State Rep. Fentrice Driskell, D-Tampa, will be the group’s parliamentarian.
“The mission and goals of the FLBC is to enhance the welfare and lives of constituents served in Florida,” the FLBC noted. “Historically, the FLBC has been a champion for quality and affordable healthcare, proper funding for education, business and economic development, civic, social and criminal justice, alternative energy resources and environmental advancements. The newly elected administration will continue to fight for the rights of the less fortunate.”
Powell weighed in on his new assignment on Wednesday.
“I am honored to serve as incoming chair of this outstanding organization and look forward to the great things this new board will accomplish in the upcoming year. We have had a very strong two years under Chair Bruce Antone, and as a unified front we are looking forward to keeping that momentum into this new decade,” said Powell.
