6.Anthony “Booger” McFarland (Defensive Tackle, 1999-2006)
Anthony “Booger” McFarland was a key part of the Buccaneers’ defensive line during the team’s most successful years. Drafted 15th overall in the 1999 NFL Draft, McFarland was brought in to complement Warren Sapp and add depth to an already imposing defensive front. Though not a stat-sheet stuffer, McFarland excelled in the dirty work of clogging running lanes and absorbing double teams, which allowed other players to shine.
Rice’s relentless pass-rushing ability struck fear into quarterbacks and helped solidify Tampa Bay’s defense as one of the best in NFL history. McFarland’s ability to anchor the middle of the line was vital in maintaining Tampa Bay’s defensive dominance, particularly against the run.
Statistics and Highlights:
- Tackles: 170 total tackles (123 solo) with the Buccaneers.
- Sacks: 20 sacks during his Tampa Bay tenure.
- Super Bowl XXXVII Champion: McFarland’s contributions in 2002 were critical to the Buccaneers’ dominant defense, which helped secure the franchise’s first Super Bowl victory.
