High-profile conservatives, including Sean Hanniity, are advising former President Donald Trump to focus on issues, not Kamala Harris’ race when confronting her on the campaign.
The criticism from some Trump supporters came after Trump questioned Harris’ race during an interview at the National Association of Black Journalists.
“I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black and now, she wants to be known as Black,” Trump said. “So, I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?”
Former Trump official Peter Navarro said Republicans going after Harris on this issue doesn’t help.
Townhall.com columnist Guy Benson said Trump should comments didn’t help his campaign, and he should have avoided these landmines, but he didn’t.
“From a political standpoint (the race issue) it is such a gift for Harris and her campaign, they want to run an identify focused obsessed campaign and this plays into those hands,’ said Benson
Benjamin Domenech, an editor at The Spectator, said Trump’s campaign has come across ill- prepared on addressing Harris, and stay focused on pressing issues such as the economy and the border.
Fox Nation host Tomi Lahren urged Trump campaign Republicans to avoid talking or referring to Harris’ race.
“She radical liberal and that will be the most effective strategy the Trump campaign,” Landen said. “But the biggest thing the Trump campaign can do is stop talking about what her race is, stop talking about if she’s Indian or Black. Nobody cares if she’s Indian, Black, or a space Martian. Talk about her radical agenda. Do not get course on that messaging because that messaging will work and the Trump campaign can bend the ears of the American people and reinforce it. He just has to stay on that path.”
Fox TV Host Shawn Hannity agreed with Lahren and recommended the same strategy.
