GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A Dixie County resident has been indicted on federal charges for allegedly trafficking methamphetamine, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida.
Ronald Carl Peavy II, 49, of Old Town, is accused of possessing with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine. If convicted, Peavy faces a potential maximum sentence of life in federal prison.
Peavy is scheduled to be arraigned before U.S. Magistrate Judge Midori A. Lowry at the federal courthouse in Gainesville on July 1 at 2:15 p.m.
The case stems from an investigation led by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorneys James A. McCain and Adam Hapner are prosecuting the case.
The charges are part of Operation Take Back America, a national initiative by the U.S. Department of Justice aimed at combating drug trafficking, dismantling transnational criminal organizations, and addressing violent crime. The initiative integrates efforts from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) and Project Safe Neighborhoods.
Authorities emphasized that an indictment is a formal accusation, not evidence of guilt. Peavy is presumed innocent unless proven otherwise in a court of law.
