This week, former President Donald Trump threw his support behind U.S. Rep. Greg Steube’s, R-Fla., reelection bid.
“I can tell you that this man stood shoulder to shoulder with me on everything I’ve ever done,” said Trump. “He’s a tough guy. He’s a warrior. He has my complete and total endorsement!”
“I’m honored to have President Trump’s endorsement for my 2022 reelection campaign as we bring a red wave to Washington! It’s been an honor to represent Sarasota, Charlotte and Lee Counties during my time in Congress, and I look forward to continuing serving the 17th District of Florida in 2022 and beyond. Floridians know America First policies work – let’s take the House back and make America proud, safe, and strong once again!” said Congressman Greg Steube.
First elected to Congress in 2018, Steube will run in a district that includes more than 60 percent of his old district, provided the congressional maps passed by the Florida Legislature and backed by Gov. Ron DeSantis are not struck down.
Regardless of how the final lines are drawn, Steube is a heavy favorite to stay in Congress in Southwest Florida, traditionally a stronghold for the GOP. Democrats Andrew Bevan, Andrea Doria Kale and Dan Lambert have lined up to run against Steube. Theodore Murray is running with no party affiliation.
