Duval County is one of eight Florida counties where Democrats outnumber registered Republicans.
In August of this year, Florida Daily reported how the new GOP leadership was narrowing the gap in voter registration between local Republicans and Democrats.
In August, the Duval GOP closed that gap to just under ten thousand; now, under 2 months later, that number is almost cut in half, around 5,000.
When new leadership was elected in December of last year, they stated that their goal was to increase their presence in the community in terms of voter registration.
“The Republican Party of Duval County continues to create new Republicans all over the city. With our expert training team, voter outreach, and community engagement, we are closing the gap,” said Charles Barr, Chairman, Republican Party of Duval County.
Barr’s leadership and team aren’t the norm. They have utilized volunteers to canvass in areas where Republicans haven’t had a strong presence in past elections.
Their voter outreach is targeting black communities, as well as Albanian, Cambodian, Ukrainian, Hispanic, Filipino, and Veteran Communities, and entering conversations with union workers.
“Instead of just talking, we are putting boots on the ground and listening to what these groups have to say, and that’s why we are steadily closing the gap,” said Barr.
“When I stepped into the role of Chairman of the Republican Party of Duval County less than a year ago, Republicans trailed Democrats by over 12,000 registrations. Since then, we have made tremendous progress in closing that gap, and today, thanks to the tireless work of our volunteers and the strength of the Republican Party, the gap has narrowed to roughly 5,000,” Barr said.
