Florida’s path toward Everglades restoration reached a crucial milestone with the award of the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) Reservoir embankment contract.
“Today, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced the award of the EAA Reservoir embankment contract. This is a pivotal moment in the historic effort to restore America’s Everglades,” said Everglades Foundation CEO Eric Eikenberg.
The announcement comes as good news for those living in South Florida who have made Lake Okeechobee a top issue for water storage that will be used for cleaner water to be sent south to the Everglades and Florida Bay.
The EAA Reservoir embankment contract is the largest in U.S. Army Corps of Engineers history and is worthy of celebration. The announcement is yet another indicator of the tremendous progress in our mission to restore and protect America’s Everglades.
Once constructed, the EAA Reservoir will reconnect Lake Okeechobee to the Everglades and significantly reduce the harmful discharges to the coastal estuaries.
The Everglades Foundation applauded the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the bipartisan support in Washington for their pivotal roles in advancing the construction of the EAA Reservoir.
