Elected Officials in Tallahassee Back Israel After Hamas Terrorist Attack

Elected officials in Tallahassee are showing their support for Israel after the recent attacks by Hamas terrorists.

Gov. Ron DeSantis announced a proposal “that will increase sanctions against the Iranian regime” which includes “broadening the industries on Florida’s scrutinized companies list and strengthening Florida’s position on states that sponsor terror.

DeSantis explained the proposal on Tuesday.

“As a state and a nation, we must stand with Israel following the heinous attacks over the weekend,” said DeSantis. “With Iran helping plot the barbaric attack against Israel, I want to make it abundantly clear: Florida supports the State of Israel against the Iranian terror state.”

“Our administration stands with Israel and its people, and we will never prop up countries that support vile and hate-filled terrorist groups like Hamas,” said Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez. “Instead, we pledge to ensure that the special bond between Florida and Israel remains unmatched and stronger than ever.”

DeSantis has the support of both of the leaders of the Florida Legislature.

“Florida has a very special relationship with Israel. While we cherish the alliance between our governments, we also recognize the bonds of family and friendship that link so many Floridians to the Israeli people,” said state Senate President Kathleen Passidomo, R-Naples. “I am proud to stand with Governor DeSantis and Speaker Renner in support of Israel. We condemn the horrific acts of terrorism coordinated by the Islamic Republic of Iran and we must ensure we are doing everything within our authority as a state government to protect Floridians from this dangerous and corrupt regime.”

“I proudly stand with our ally, Israel, and Florida’s Jewish community. Florida taxpayers will not do business with Iran,” said state House Speaker Paul Renner, R-Palm Coast. “The Islamic Republic of Iran has orchestrated the most heinous acts of terrorism against America and our allies, and they openly conspire against the interests of our nation. For the sake of our national security and in standing with our allies around the world, especially Israel, I proudly join with Governor DeSantis to support any measure that weakens the Iranian regime and protects our taxpayers.”

State CFO Jimmy Patronis tried to contrast DeSantis with President Joe Biden on the issue.

“Until today, the president had been largely unavailable as one of the worst terrorist attacks in world history was taking place to an American ally. Today, the president spoke to the country, and unfortunately, said very little. Biden spent much of his time discussing what his plans were for Congress, when we all know Congress is full of broken people who are completely unserious about the challenges at hand. This wasn’t leadership,” said Patronis. “It’s at moments like these the Leader of the Free World must provide total moral clarity and outline concrete steps on the actions that our country will take to kill the terrorists who have spilt American blood. I don’t want these wars fought on American soil and we need to kill as many bloodthirsty terrorists as possible, so these soulless beings are quickly deposited to Hell, to burn for all eternity, where they can never threaten an American or Israeli life ever again.

“In contrast to the vague address of the president, Governor DeSantis outlined very specific steps that the state of Florida will take to support Israel and further sanction Iran. The Governor is correct: not one American dollar should go to these acts of terror and we must support Israel both morally and monetarily. They will need cash to fight, and to rebuild their economy, and at every opportunity the United States must take steps to support our friends, and bankrupt our enemies. Florida will lead in this effort,” Patronis added.

DeSantis also ordered flags across Florida at half-staff through Friday. He has also ordered the Florida Capitol to be lit in blue and white to honor the victims of the Hamas terrorist attacks.

Democrats in the Florida Legislature also condemned the terrorist attacks.

“It is with a great sadness that we witness the ongoing turmoil and violence in the Middle East. The recent attacks on Israel by Hamas have left us deeply heartbroken. Israel has long been a beacon of democracy, innovation, and resilience in the Middle East and a true friend to the United States and the state of Florida. It is a nation that has faced numerous challenges throughout its existence, yet it has always shown unwavering determination to thrive and prosper. It is with admiration that we view their accomplishments in fields ranging from technology to culture. As a representative of my community, I pledge to continue advocating for policies that strengthen the U.S.-Israel relationship and promote peace. Let us remember that in times of crisis, we must stand together, show empathy, and strive for a better future for all. My heart aches for the people of Israel, and I express my sincerest hope that they may soon find the security, peace, and stability they so rightfully deserve,” said state Rep. Kelly Skidmore, D-Boca Raton.

State Sen. Lori Berman, D-Boyton Beach, and state Rep. Katherine Waldron, D-Wellington, brought out a resolution “expressing Florida’s unwavering support for the state of Israel” and “recognize the right of the state of Israel to exist as a sovereign nation, condemn the unprovoked attack by Hamas against Israel, support Israel’s right to defend itself, and reaffirm the unwavering commitment between Florida and Israel.”

“Florida and Israel have a long-standing relationship based on mutual democratic values and the unprovoked, heinous attack on Israel should be offensive to all Floridians. We stand in support of our democratic ally and affirm their right to defend themselves,” said Berman.

“This resolution stands as a statement of solidarity with Florida’s closest foreign ally, Israel. We are outraged at this terrorist organization’s cruelty attacking and killing innocent people,” said Waldron.
