Florida Bill Would Ban State from Contracting with News Censorship Companies

Florida HB939 would ban the state from contracting services from news media censorship companies such as NewsGuard

Florida’s Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis voiced his support for Florida House Bill 939. Described as a consumer protection bill, HB939 would ban the state from contracting services from news media censorship companies such as NewsGuard.

“This legislation, among other items, bars state agencies from contracting with censorship companies like NewsGuard, which is a self-described media monitoring, technology company,” Patronis said in an official statement. “Additionally, the legislation will empower users on third-party payment processors (like PayPal and Venmo) to avoid wrongfully paying taxes on certain transactions the IRS is targeting.”
