Florida CFO Jimmy Patronis Returns More than $33 Million in Unclaimed Property in March

Florida Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis announced that more than $33 million in unclaimed property was returned to Floridians during the month of March. Since CFO Patronis took office in 2017, nearly $2.4 billion in unclaimed property has been returned to Florida citizens.

“I’m so proud of the hard work of Florida’s unclaimed property team who returned more than $33 million in unclaimed property to Floridians in March,” Patronis said. As your CFO, I want every cent of unclaimed property to be returned to its rightful owner as quickly as possible. An estimated one in five Floridians has unclaimed property just waiting to be claimed. That’s why I encourage every Floridian to search now for yourself, your friends, your loved ones, and even your business at FLTreasureHunt.gov. Don’t wait, start your treasure hunt today!”

March 2024 Unclaimed Property Returns by Region:

  • Pensacola – $909,000
  • Panama City – $785,000
  • Tallahassee – $636,000
  • Jacksonville – $2 Million
  • Gainesville – $253,000
  • Orlando – $5.9 Million
  • Tampa/St. Pete – $7.9 Million
  • Fort Myers/Naples – $1.9 Million
  • West Palm Beach – $5.2 Million
  • Miami – $7.8 Million

According to the Florida Department of Financial Services, unclaimed property is defined as a financial asset that is unknown or lost or has been left inactive, unclaimed, or abandoned by its owner. The most common types of unclaimed property are dormant bank accounts, unclaimed insurance proceeds, stocks, dividends, uncashed checks, deposits, credit balances, and refunds. Unclaimed property also includes contents from abandoned safe deposit boxes in financial institutions. Unclaimed property assets are held by business or government entities (holders) for a set period of time, usually five years. If the holder is unable to locate, re-establish contact with the owner, and return the asset, it is reported and remitted to the Florida Department of Financial Services, Division of Unclaimed Property.
