Florida Cracking Down On Illegal Vapes

Florida Retail Federation President and CEO Scott Shalley recently shared vital information on the Florida crack-down of illegal vapes flooding in from China. Florida is taking first-of-its-kind steps to create a directory of illegal products to share with manufacturers and retailers to educate about the illegal products and get them off the shelves in Florida.

Scott Shalley discussed Florida’s directory and the effect it will have starting March 1st.

“‘You’ve got a product that someone is putting in their body that is coming from overseas, primarily China, that has not been evaluated,’ Shalley explained. ‘Worst-case scenario, is there the opportunity for the infusion of fentanyl or some other deadly product? Are there other chemicals that may be included that have not been evaluated by the FDA?’ We don’t expect the single operator to keep their fingers directly on the pulse all the time so we need to help in terms of education notices when products are added to the list.”

Fines for retailers will begin March 1st in Florida in an effort to encourage all retailers to check their shelves and protect kids.
