This week, the U.S. House overwhelmingly passed a resolution from U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, the chairman of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, “standing with Israel as it defends itself against the barbaric war launched by Hamas and other terrorists.”
Every single member of the Florida delegation co-sponsored and voted for the resolution, which cleared the House on a 412-10 vote. U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., joined nine Democrats, including U.S. Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY, in opposing the resolution.
“Today, I voted to reaffirm the United States’ support of Israel and to condemn the brutal war launched by Hamas terrorists,” said U.S. Rep. Dan Webster, R-Fla. “On October 7th, Hamas terrorists carried out an unprovoked and coordinated attack against Israel. These terrorists have shown a blatant disregard for human life, kidnapping and killing innocent civilians and children. America’s steadfast support is vital to a strong and secure Israel. Particularly in the face of this heinous attack.”
“I stand with Israel and the Jewish people in the wake of the barbaric attack by Hamas terrorists. I am deeply saddened by the brutal murders, rapes and hostage-taking of innocent people. I pray for all of those who’ve been injured and for all the innocent people in harm’s way,” said U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, D-Fla. “In the coming days, the Congress will consider approving additional security assistance to Israel, humanitarian aid for the innocent people in Gaza and other critical needs. It is in the national security interests of the United States to work to prevent escalation of a wider war as President Biden works to free hostages and provide safe passage for critical supplies.”
U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson, D-Fla., said she was happy to see strong majorities from both sides of the aisle back the resolution.
“Today, Congress set aside partisanship and stood in solidarity with Israel during a time of significant hardship for the nation. Hundreds of Israelis have lost their lives at the hands of Hamas. To this day, Hamas still holds Israeli and American hostages, perpetuating fear among the people. I am proud to vote for the bipartisan resolution to let the world know the United States stands with Israel. Democrats and Republicans understand the dire situation in Israel, and we must stand with one of our closest allies. This resolution states loudly that when Israel is strong, America is strong. Our national security and commitment to democracy and freedom depend on our support for Israel. I am pleased to see the House of Representatives united in standing with Israel. I look forward to allocating the necessary funds to ensure Israel’s self-defense against all attacks,” said Wilson.
