Following a late-game collapse against the Tennessee Volunteers, fans of the Florida Gators have renewed their demand for University of Florida Athletic Director Scott Stricklin to fire Gators football head coach Billy Napier.
If the loss to an arch-rival in the same division wasn’t frustrating enough for the Gators, they also lost quarterback Graham Mertz to an apparent injury to his leg. As of Sunday afternoon, his injury wasn’t disclosed.
With the loss, the Gators are 3-3, with a victory against Mississippi State as the Gators’ lone conference win to date. Their non-conference wins were against the UCF Knights, who are also 3-3 this season, and the Samford Bulldogs, who play in the FCS Division, and have a losing record at 2-3.
This week, the Gators return home to Steve Spurrier Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. They’ll face a Kentucky team that has also been plagued by inconsistent performance on offense. The Wildcats are 3-3, including 1-3 in the SEC after losing to Vanderbilt, 20-13.
