The U.S. Supreme Court defeated a new rule change from the Biden administration dealing with Title IX.
The White House proposed to allow men to compete in women’s sports.
By a vote of 5-4, the Supreme Court turned down Biden’s request to impose the new rule that would protect transgender students from being discriminated against by Title IX.
The suit to stop challenging the Biden proposal from taking effect in Florida was the state Attorney General Ashley Moody. Moody said it would have permitted biological men in women’s bathrooms, locker rooms, and dorms.
“This rule is really a radical departure from what Title IX was originally meant to do,” Moody said.
Opponents of the Biden administration’s plan said the U.S. Department of Education threatened to withhold federal dollars from colleges and universities that didn’t implement the proposed changes. However, before the Supreme Court made its decision, states like Florida weren’t waiting. In 2021, Florida passed legislation banning transgender female students from playing in women’s and girls’ sports.
“This is a big deal in female sports here in Florida. And now, with the court’s decision, it’s time to focus on male and female sports without all the politics that the left wants to interject,” said Florida Sportscaster Jason Redman.
All three liberal members of the court opposed the ruling, but the conservative justices voted in favor, except for conservative Justice Neil Gorsuch. He dissented and said the reason was that the lower court rulings were “overbroad.”
A court filing obtained by The Washington Times found that 102 female athletes and 26 states were asking the Supreme Court to fast-track this issue since the rule had already taken effect.
