Florida Locals Use GoFundMe and Volunteers to Repair One of the State’s Final Drive In Movie Theaters

A Florida drive-in movie theater that has been in business for 72 years suffered approximately $100,000 in damage from recent hurricanes, including major damage to their movie screen.

“We’re gonna have a cleanup crew, made up of the community of Ruskin coming out here to start cleaning up the trees and all the debris in hopes that we get it cleaned up,” co-owner Karen Freiwald told TWSP, Tampa’s CBS affiliate.””Our hope is to get rebuilt so that by Thanksgiving, we’re back up and running, showing Moana 2.”

With no insurance available for their movie screen, the Ruskin Family Drive-In theater turned to the community and crowdsource fundraising. Devoted patrons and other supporters have banded together via on-site assistance and a GoFundMe account, which has raised $20,000 toward the theater’s repairs, thus far. You can contribute to the fundraiser by visiting the GoFundMe page, HERE.
