With only hours remaining until polls close, Florida political analysts are making predictions about the candidates and amendments on the ballot.
All analysts expect Trump to easily carry Florida, and Republican Senator Rick Scott to win his re-election bid against Democratic opponent Debbie Mucarsel-Powell.
Analyst Jamie Miller dismissed the notion that Florida is in play for Kamala Harris.
“Anyone who says Florida is in play” is lying to you” Miller said.
Miller downplayed the impact of Harris’ large number of surrogates campaigning across the Sunshite State. He asserts that the data shows Florida is way out of reach for Democrats.
“When it comes to predictions, I’m a ‘the glass is half-empty’ guy, so this is my prediction, but I truly think it could be much better for Trump,” Miller added. “If turnout comes in at a total of 72 percent, Trump climbs to a 9- or 10-point win,” says Miller.”
If lower, Miller predicts Trump wins Florida with 53.2 percent, to 46.7 percent for Harrris. In 2020, Trump won with 51.2 percent vs Biden’s 47.9 percent.
Florida Amendments 3 and 4 would legalize recreational marijuana and expand abortion rights if passed. Miller and other analysts offered their predictions on the likelihood of either amendment reaching the required 60% threshold to become law.
Miller expects both Amendments will come close to passing but ultimately fail, with around 58% support finish with around 58% support,
Political commentator and columnist Barney Bishop believes both amendments will fail.
Dr. Ed Moore, a Florida Daily contributing columnist and radio analyst, has a slightly different perspective on the fate of the amendments.
“I’m thinking Amendment 3 will fail with around 57% of support,” Moore said. “Amendment 4 will get maybe 59%, though it could squeeze by barely with 60%.”
Steve Vancore, an Adjunct professor at Florida State, TV host and media expert with Vancore Jones Communications in Tallahassee, anticipates Amendment 4 to fall short of the required 60% mark, but he expects Amendment 3 to pass.
Former Florida State Rep and now commentator on the Florida Talk Radio circuit, Matt Caldwell was one of only two analysts we interviewed who expects the abortion rights amendment to prevail. Caldwell says amendment 3 will fail but believes the abortion amendment 4 will pass.
Ed Lynch, host of The Primal Truth, predicts Amendment 3 will pass, and Amendment 4 will fail.
Radio legal commentator Ron Davis, who has been critical of both amendments, expects Amendment 3 to pass easily, and Amendment 4 to pass by a narrow margin.
