Florida Ranked 4th ‘Least Polite’ State in Recent Survey

A recent survey by Preply ranks Florida #4 among the ‘Least Polite States’ in the nation.Florida is the least courteous state in the South. Conversely, Georiga and Alabama rank 2nd and 3rd respectively for the ‘Most Polite States.’

Notable statistics from the survey data showed:

  • Only 32% of Florida residents compliment others at least once a week.
  • 49% of Florida residents report using offensive language regularly.
  • Only 45% of Florida residents regularly say “please” and “thank you.”
  • Only 43% of residents send “thank you” notes after receiving gifts.
  • 91% of Floridians believe it’s important to be a courteous driver.

Methodology

In this study, Preply surveyed Americans by state to determine where residents are the most polite. They asked a variety of questions gauging the importance respondents place on certain “polite” actions such as opening a door for someone, giving up your seat to someone in need, and more.

Preply also asked questions regarding the frequency in which respondents take part in certain actions like complimenting others, saying “please” and “thank you”, and more. Preply then assigned points to responses that showed the most polite behavior and averaged respondents’ total scores by state.

Next, Preply adjusted these scores on a scale of 0 to 100, with 100 representing the most polite behavior. Finally, we ranked those states accordingly to determine where Americans are most polite.
