Florida Ranked Among Top 10 States Most Addicted to TikTok

Data showed that Florida has an average of 4,410 monthly searches per 100k residents for terms involving TikTok.

Florida residents ranked among the nation’s top 10 for addiction to the social media network TikTok. Despite warnings of data privacy issues by the Chinese-owned network, and restricted access for students and government officials, the Sunshine ranked ninth in the nation after QR Code Generator QRFY analyzed nationwide Google search volume behind 28 keywords related to TikTok – including ‘TikTok App’, ‘TikTok dances’, TikTok songs’ – to identify which states are most obsessed with the social media app.

Speaking on the findings, CEO of QRFY Marc Porcar says: “This study highlights the nation’s ongoing obsession with TikTok, most notably in California where the influencer market is extremely saturated.

“The data pinpoints the areas most addicted to TikTok, and while the platform can be an amazing tool for sharing information and content across the globe, it can also tempt users to spend excessive amounts of time scrolling and consuming content that isn’t always beneficial for their mental health – especially if it prevents them from other activities.

“With this in mind, it is important users are using the platform responsibly to avoid negative impacts on their mental health. Take heed of the app’s ‘time to switch off’ prompts, as this can help signify when it’s time to take a break and reset.”

According to a QRFY, the volume was then scaled against each state’s population to determine where is searching for TikTok content the most – and where isn’t as interested.

Florida averages 4,410 monthly searches per 100k residents. California ranked as the number one state for addiction, with an average monthly search volume of 5,202 per 100k residents. California was followed by Nevada and New York, and Florida’s neighbor to the northeast, Georgia, ranked fourth 4,890 monthly searches per 100k people.

In fifth place with 4,872 searches each month per 100k residents, New Jersey has been revealed as another state that is clearly obsessed with TikTok.

Top 10 States Most Obsessed with TikTok

Rank State Average Monthly Search Volume (Per 100k Residents)
1 California 5,202
2 Nevada  4,983
3 New York  4,899
4 Georgia  4,890
5 New Jersey  4,872
6 Maryland  4,825
7 Texas  4,775
8 Virginia  4,715
9 Florida  4,410
10 Arizona  4,129

Overall, the nation reported an average monthly search volume of over 13 million for TikTok-related terms – so it’s clear the app is still a favored choice among Americans. In fact, since the app launched in 2016, it has had an estimated one billion monthly users worldwide.

Sources: Search volume data was gathered from Google Keywords Planner. Other sources include Statista, Surfshark, and reuters.com

Methodology: Using search terms related to TikTok, the monthly Google search volumes over the past 12 months were aggregated for each state. The data was then divided by each state’s population and multiplied by 100,000 to normalize the data into average monthly searches per 100,000 people. This average search volume data was then used to rank each state by its interest in TikTok-related topics.
