Florida GOP chairman Evan Power says news ads promoting state Amendment 2 will air over the next several weeks.
The initiative on this year’s state ballot will ask voters if they want to amend the state constitution. It still needs 60% support to pass.
Supporters of Amendment 2 highlight the bipartisan support the issue is receiving. The ad will air the support coming from “conservationists, environmentalists, and sportsmen as a humane way to manage Florida’s wildlife, protect its natural resources, and promote environmental stewardship. So whether you want to protect our environment or our traditions, Amendment two is for you,” the ad promotes.
It also helps when the popular Florida Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson backs the amendment as well.
Simpson explains the amendment is needed because far-left groups have been able to mobilize in other states to get laws passed, putting limits on those who want to hunt and fish.
“When it comes to hunting and fishing, this isn’t and shouldn’t be a partisan. I know plenty of Democrats and Republicans who may differ on several positions. Still, when it comes to amendment 2 and preserving the right to hunt and fish, there’s a lot of common support from both sides,” said Commissioner Simpson.
Supporters of the amendment are looking to gain a lot of attention because much of the focus by the media has been on the marijuana and abortion amendments.
The state Republican party has already come out in opposition against the abortion and marijuana amendments.
The committee behind the amendment has out-fundraised its opposition.
