Florida State Rep Wants to Double Fees Criminals Pay to Crime Stoppers Trust Fund

State Rep. Kevin Chambliss, D-Homestead, is championing a bill to “double the fee required to be paid by criminal offenders to the Crime Stoppers Trust Fund.”

After filing the proposal last week, Chambliss weighed in on the proposal this week.

“Our communities are continuously forced to face the sadness and heartbreak that accompanies violence,” said Chambliss. “By filing HB 153, my goal is to provide Crime Stoppers with more resources to prevent and solve more crimes, which will undoubtedly help to bring about the reduction of violence our communities need.”

“The success of the Crime Stoppers Program in the state of Florida is indisputable: since June 2015, Crime Stoppers has assisted law enforcement units across the state to make over 19,000 arrests, to clear over 38,000 cases and to recover over $45 million of property and narcotics,” Chambliss’ office noted.

Florida Association of Crime Stoppers is pleased to continue the positive working relationship between the state Legislature and the Florida Crime Stoppers organizations,” said Frank Brunner, the president of the Florida Association of Crime Stoppers. “This collaboration represents a powerful commitment to the safety and well-being of our communities. Together, we aim to create a safer, more secure environment for all residents, demonstrating that when government and grassroots organizations work hand in hand, we can achieve remarkable outcomes and build a ‘Stronger, Safer Florida!’”
