Florida Suing Biden Administration for Giving Illegal Aliens Healthcare

Earlier this summer, Florida Daily reported that the Biden administration was planning to expand Obamacare to illegal immigrants.

Now Florida is leading the legal battle against the plan. The Sunshine State is joined by 15 other states suing the White House to prevent illegal immigrants from obtaining subsidized healthcare at the expense of legal citizen taxpayers.

The plan by the Biden administration is to authorize illegal immigrants who came as children under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA, also known as ‘Dreamers’) access to healthcare via the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as ‘Obamacare.’

If the new policy goes into effect this November, over 100,000 uninsured illegal immigrants may be eligible for health insurance coverage.

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody says the new regulation violates federal law that forbids giving benefits to illegals in the U.S.

Besides Moody, other state AG’s included in the lawsuit say illegals shouldn’t get a free pass when they come to America, and they shouldn’t receive taxpayer benefits. “It violates federal law,” said Moody. Their lawsuit asserts that the rule change also defies the popular welfare reform bill that was passed in 1996.

Opponents of Biden’s plan contend that if illegal immigrants are provided healthcare subsidized by taxpayers, more immigrants will be incentivized to illegally enter the U.S., and increase the financial burden on states’ public education systems.

Supporters of giving healthcare to ‘Dreamers’ argue that young people who had no say when they were brought into the U.S. are now assimilated into the culture, paying taxes, and working in local communities.

The lawsuit notes that ‘Dreamers’ have not been eligible for taxpayer-subsidized health programs because they do not meet the legal definition of having a “lawful presence” in the U.S.

Critics of the Biden White House’s move point out that the new coverage takes effect Nov. 1, days before the 2024 election.
