Florida’s Most-Searched Dog Breeds Ranked in Recent Study

A new study has revealed that the Golden Retriever is America’s most Googled dog breed, securing the top position in 49 out of 50 states.

The research, conducted by targeted canine supplement providers Pup Labs, analyzed Google search data across the nation to determine which dog breeds Americans are most interested in heading into 2026.

Florida’s Findings

The state’s most popular dog breeds are the Golden Retriever, with an average of 83,569 monthly searches, the French Bulldog, with 58,377 searches, and the Australian Shepherd, with 53,844 searches. Next is the German Shepherd, with 50,008 searches and the Belgian Malinois, with 47,473 searches.

The Top 10 Most Popular Dog Breeds in the US

Golden Retrievers rank first with more than 1 million monthly U.S. searches, 40% more than the second most popular breed in this study, the Australian Shepherd, which averaged 768,967 searches. The French Bulldog ranks third nationally, with 733,863 monthly searches.

The Golden Retriever is the most-searched breed in all but one state, Utah. California residents showed the biggest love for Golden Retrievers, with 136,922 monthly searches for the breed, the highest volume for any breed in any state. Texas followed with 97,708 searches, while Florida rounded out the top three states with 83,719 monthly searches for Golden Retrievers.

Utah is the only state where Bernese Mountain Dogs lead, with 10,160 monthly searches. Golden Retrievers do follow closely in second place however, with 10,125 monthly searches in Utah.

The study revealed surprising findings about traditionally popular breeds. Labrador Retrievers, often cited as America’s most popular breed by registration organizations, ranked only 27th with 239,332 monthly searches. Beagles came in at 59th place with just 140,915 monthly searches.

Commenting on the findings, Dr Randy Aronson from Pup Labs,

“It’s no surprise to see Golden Retrievers topping this study. By their very nature, they’re friendly, intelligent, and incredibly adaptable, which makes them perfect family companions and explains why they’re so consistently popular across different lifestyles and states.

No matter what dog breed is your favorite, it’s important to remember that if you are looking to add a furry friend to your home, that you’re well prepared and researched into how to best care for them. Different breeds have different needs, so taking time to understand how to best love and care for your pet is not just useful, but vital.”

Methodology: Monthly average search volume data was taken from Google Keyword Planner based on searches over the 12 months between March 2024 and February 2025 to reveal the rankings. The top 288 most popular dog breeds were analyzed based on searches for: “[dog_breed] breed”, “[dog_breed] dog”, “[dog_breed] near me”, “[dog_breed] puppies for sale”, “[dog_breed] puppy”, “[dog_breed] rescue”, “adopt [dog_breed]”, and “buy [dog_breed]”. The combined search volume for each dog breed’s search terms was calculated and then used to rank and determine each state’s most popular 5 dog breeds.
