A former Democratic gubernatorial nominee who also served as the mayor of Tallahassee was arrested on drug charges in Alabama. Andrew Gillum, by police in Daphne, Alabama. According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office jail roster, Gillum was taken into custody on July 2 at 10:44 p.m. local time for “Possession Of Dangerous Drugs, Drug Paraphernalia-1st Offense, and Possession of Marijuana 2nd.”
The jail roster indicates he was released from custody on July 3.
Gillum, who was heavily endorsed by Bernie Sanders and lost to Ron DeSantis in 2018, made international headlines six years after he was found intoxicated in a room at Miami Beach’s Mondrian hotel with a male escort and three bags of suspected crystal meth. The escort, Travis Dyson, said he met Gillum on the gay dating app Grindr two weeks before the March 2020 incident and claimed the two had used drugs. Police said empty beer bottles and prescription bottles were found scattered in the hotel room, where Gillum said he had been staying for a wedding.
