Fort Myers, Fla. – A Fort Myers man has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for his role in a drug trafficking operation that used the U.S. mail to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl.
Durand Dijuon Demetiu Colbert, 35, pleaded guilty in September 2024 to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, and attempted possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. U.S. District Judge Thomas P. Barber handed down the sentence.
According to court records, Colbert worked with 28-year-old Esdras Joel Garcia De La Rosa of Los Angeles, California, to obtain and distribute controlled substances in Lee County. De La Rosa, who lived in the Los Angeles area, supplied Colbert with methamphetamine and fentanyl, shipping the drugs to Florida through the U.S. Postal Service and other shipping carriers.
On November 17, 2023, law enforcement officials executed a search warrant at Colbert’s home. During the search, deputies found approximately 1,700 fentanyl pills that had been sent by De La Rosa.
De La Rosa previously pleaded guilty and was sentenced to nine years in federal prison in April 2025.
The case was investigated by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the United States Postal Inspection Service. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Morgan.
