To the surprise of many college football fans and pundits, the Florida State University (FSU) announced that Mike Norvell will return as head coach in 2026. FSU started the 2025 season with a dominant win over the University of Alabama, but has been plagued by inconsistent play, especially on the road, throughout the season. Mike Norvell led FSU to an undefeated regular season in 2023, but has struggled ever since, with only two wins in 2024, and only five wins with one game remaining in the 2025 regular season.
“This program has been built on belief, sacrifice, and putting the team first,” Norvell said in response to FSU’s announcement. “That set of values has always guided my actions, and those of our players. The driving motivation behind this is to make certain that we are doing everything properly to obtain and retain elite players, add critical pieces, and sustain long-term success.
I love Florida State, and I am fully committed to this program, and our shared goals.”
FSU can only avoid a losing record if it defeats a 3-8 University of Florida team that has been reeling since its former head coach, Billy Napier, was fired.
