One of Florida’s most well-known colleges among film industry and digital media professionals is cutting staff for the second straight year. Earlier today, the Orlando Business Journal (OBJ) reported that Full Sail University eliminated 180 positions. Despite the staff reduction, housing expansion projects next to the campus, based in Winter Park, haven’t stopped.
“The university is building its Dream Lofts dorm project along University Boulevard, which would add 570 beds for students,” according to previous OBJ reporting. The project is expected to debut in 2028 and could expand in future phases.”
In a statement, Full Sail University said the cuts span several areas of the institution, including academic, administrative and operational roles.
The university said changes in workflows, enrollment trends and technology have shifted its priorities and influenced which positions are needed to support the institution moving forward.
Full Sail said employees affected by the reductions are receiving assistance from the university’s human resources department.
The university said no degree programs are being eliminated as part of the restructuring and that the changes are designed to maintain continuity of instruction for current students.
Full Sail also said it remains confident in its ability to provide a high-quality educational experience in the years ahead.
The university has not disclosed which positions were eliminated or exactly when the cuts took effect.
