A Gainesville woman has been indicted in federal court on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida.
Jomekia Archer, 46, of Gainesville, faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted. U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin announced the charge.
Archer appeared in federal court for an arraignment before U.S. Magistrate Judge Midori A. Lowry in Gainesville. A jury trial is scheduled for June 17, 2026, before Chief U.S. District Judge Allen C. Winsor, also in Gainesville.
The case is being investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Gainesville Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tyler Fleming is prosecuting the case.
Federal prosecutors said the case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative aimed at combating violent crime, illegal immigration, cartels and transnational criminal organizations.
An indictment is only an allegation and is not evidence of guilt. Archer is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
