Even with around 2.8 million Floridians traveling by road over the Thanksgiving weekend, gas prices in the Sunshine State continued to drop.
The average gallon of gas in Florida cost $3.02 on Sunday, down from $3.04 at the start of last week and $3.32 a month ago. The national average stood at $3.26 a gallon on Sunday.
On Thanksgiving itself, the average gallon of gas in Florida cost $3.03. Last year on Thanksgiving, the average gallon of gas cost $3.41 in Florida, compared to $3.35 in 2021 and $2.03 in 2020 when the state was hit by the COVID pandemic.
“A recent drop in oil prices and the seasonal downturn in fuel demand have enabled gas prices to move lower in time for the holidays,” said Mark Jenkins, a spokesman for AAA and the Auto Club Group. “Gas prices should remain low through the holidays, unless there’s an unexpected spike in oil prices or disruption to the domestic gasoline supply line.”
The West Palm Beach-Boca Raton area had the most expensive gas in the state, with an average of $3.22 per gallon in that market, followed by Tallahassee and Miami, which both saw an average of $3.10 a gallon.
Pensacola had the least expensive gas in the state with an average of $2.85 a gallon, followed by the Crestview-Fort Walton Beach market at $2.86 a gallon and Panama City at $2.90 a gallon.
