Earlier this month, congressional candidate Luke Murphy announced that if elected to Florida’s 2nd Congressional District, he would work with members of the Florida Congressional Delegation to establish a Florida Veterans Caucus focused on advancing policies that support veterans, military families, and America’s national defense community in Florida.
Murphy, a Purple Heart recipient and combat veteran who served two tours in Iraq, said Florida’s large veteran population deserves stronger representation and a unified voice in Washington.
“Florida is home to one of the largest veteran populations in the nation, yet too many veterans are still fighting bureaucratic battles long after they return home,” Murphy said. “The Florida Veterans Caucus will bring lawmakers together to fight for better health care access, mental health services, faster VA responsiveness, workforce opportunities, and stronger support for military families.”
Murphy said the caucus would focus on practical, results-driven solutions while ensuring that veterans’ issues remain a legislative priority in Congress.
“Our veterans fulfilled their mission for America,” Murphy added. “Congress should fulfill its mission to them. We need leaders who understand military service firsthand and who are willing to challenge the broken systems that continue to fail those who wore the uniform.”
The proposed caucus would also advocate for protecting military installations across Florida including Tyndall Air Force Base, strengthening national security, expanding veteran employment initiatives, and improving accountability within the Department of Veterans Affairs.
