Gus Bilirakis Honored by Fleet Reserve Association for Advocacy for Veterans

The Fleet Reserve Association (FRA) was founded in 1924, to represent the concerns of members of the enlisted Sea Service (Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard).

This week, U.S. Gus Bilirakis, R-Fla., received the Pinnacle Award from the Fleet Reserve Association (FRA) for his continued advocacy on behalf of all veterans.

The FRA was founded in 1924, to represent the concerns of members of the enlisted Sea Service (Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard).

“It is an honor to receive the FRA Pinnacle Award for my work on behalf of our nation’s heroes.  I have always said there is no greater priority for me than making sure that all Veterans receive the benefits and care they’ve earned and deserve,” said Bilirakis.  “I’m proud of the improvements we’ve made so far in achieving this goal, but I recognize we still have a long way to go – and Veterans can count on me to continue serving as their voice in Congress.”

The FRA cited the following reasons in selecting Bilirakis for this honor:

Congressman Bilirakis has consistently fought to resolve the concurrent receipt injustice that disabled veterans face.

The congressman is working to ensure all veterans suffering from illnesses related to being exposed to toxins during their service don’t have to spend decades of wasted time fighting their own government just to get medical care and benefits.

The congressman is committed to enhancing the wrap-around services provided for homeless veterans.

Congressman Bilirakis also is trying to expand veterans’ access to dental care and improve support for veterans as they transition into civilian life.

Additionally, Bilirakis is drafting legislation to create a commemorative coin to honor FRA’s 100th year anniversary.
