Former President Donald Trump won the Iowa Caucus with approximately 51% of the votes. The remaining votes were nearly split evenly, with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis getting 21.2% of the votes to former UN Ambassador and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley‘s 19.1%. Billionaire businessman Vivek Ramaswamy earned 7.7% of the votes, and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson finished with less than one percent of the votes.
Following his fourth-place finish, Ramaswamy ended his campaign and announced his endorsement of Trump. The remaining candidates appear poised to remain in the race through the next Republican Primary in New Hampshire on Jan. 23.
Notable data from entrance polling in Iowa showed Trump taking 21% support of voters under the age of 30 who were polled, compared to 35% who supported DeSantis, and 23% who supported Haley. Ramaswamy mirrored Trump, with 21% support. Among voters under the age of 45, Trump won 41%, with DeSantis winning 27%, Haley winning 15%, and Ramaswamy winning 17%.
With the New Hampshire primary one week away, most major polls featured in the RealClearPolitics Average show Haley within 5% of Trump’s support. DeSantis, who has not campaigned in the state, didn’t reach double digits in most New Hampshire polls prior to the Iowa Caucus.
