On Saturday, the Healthy Start Coalition of Seminole County (HSCSC) hosted its Hooked on T.E.A.M. Dad event, a free event for participating T.E.A.M. Dad fathers. It took place at Lake Carola and featured fishing activities and resources tailored for fathers. Thanks to a generous $5,000 sponsorship from Aetna Better Health of Florida and the support of Commissioner Kerry Wiggins Sr., as well as from local organizations, dads in Seminole County were able to enjoy a day of fishing designed specifically for them.
Carmen Guzman, Executive Director of the Healthy Start Coalition of Seminole County, said, “We want dads to know they matter, and this event is all about giving them a space to connect, recharge, and feel supported. Strong dads help build strong families, and strong families make our community flourish. Hooked on T.E.A.M. Dad is part of HSCSC’s ongoing commitment to supporting fathers and strengthening families across Seminole County. We couldn’t do this without our generous partners and the sponsorship from Aetna Better Health of Florida.”
Dads enjoyed a relaxing day by the water while fishing with some help from the Lake Mary Boy Scouts. The event’s fishing element, along with its community resources, is part of the broader effort supported by Aetna Better Health of Florida to encourage healthier families and stronger community connections. As part of the event sponsorship, Aetna Better Health of Florida generously provided attendees with hygiene kits, helping to ensure that families not only enjoyed the day’s activities but also left with resources that promote dignity, health, and ongoing well-being.
Community organizations and leaders also on-site to provide important resources, including:
Unity Youth Association
Midway Coalition
Seminole County Fire Department
Florida Department of Health in Seminole County
Mental Health Specialists
Local Elected Leaders
