How The Military Went ‘Woke’

In his new book, ‘The War on Warriors’: Behind the Betrayal of the Men Who Keep Us Free, Fox News host and Army veteran Pete Hegseth does a deep dive into how the U.S. military started to move to the left.

Hegseth’s book focuses on how the military allowed itself to be manipulated into becoming woke, and he says this ideology could put the U.S. in harm’s way.

“These warriors, there’s a war on them, and it’s not just what they’re facing on the battlefield, it’s from within,” Hegseth says.

In some of the chapters, Hegseth outlines the origins of wokeism running through the military, from gender quotas to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

The book explains the liberal movement inside the U.S. military started under former President Obama and expanded rapidly under President Biden.

From his days in the Army, Hegseth served in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Guantánamo Bay. He also earned two Bronze Stars and a Combat Infantryman Badge.

He says today’s military is vastly different from the one he saw when he served over twenty years ago. “Our military is less prepared, less focused, and their units are less cohesive. They’re less well-trained, their standards are lower, and the social justice priorities of this administration and previous have distracted our institutions,” says Hegseth.

Hegseth, the military commanders during the Obama years kept their mouths shut when voicing opposition to the woke policies being implemented at the Pentagon.

“They went along to get along. Civilians have rammed it down the throats of our generals, and the generals are doing the bidding because they know if they want to get promoted, they’ve got to follow the social engineering prerogatives of the White House or who’s in charge. Otherwise, they don’t get promoted, they get fired, and they don’t get the fancy jobs out in the defense sector afterward. And so, they go along to get along, even though they know the things they’re pushing don’t improve their units,” Hegseth said.
