Illegal Immigration Moving Up as a Top Issue for Voters in 2022

The issue of illegal immigration has predominantly been a big issue among Republicans.

But according to a recent survey from Quinnipiac University, immigration is now becoming a top-tier issue for voters in the 2022 elections.

When voters were asked what the most urgent issue currently facing the U.S. is, inflation led the list followed by immigration and COVID.

This comes on the heels of Fox News reporting that a source from inside the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) informed them that, since October 2021, hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants avoided arrest by the Border Patrol .

The source told Fox News that there are approximately 220,000 known “gotaways,” illegals who get past Border Patrol when coming across the border.

Border Patrol agents say with the spring and summer months approaching, the number of illegals coming across the border should pick up significantly.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said in January there were 153,941 migrant encounters. This number is much larger than in January 2021 when 78,414 illegal immigrants crossed over.

DHS also reported that the Biden administration released 104,171 illegal migrants into the U.S. with a Notice to Report. However, DHS admitted around 50,000 illegal immigrants failed to show up to Customs Enforcement agents.

Border Patrol agents say with the large number of illegals crossing into the U.S. and the Biden White House ending the Trump administration’s policy of “catch and release,” they are being overwhelmed at the border.

Biden administration officials deny the increase of illegal immigrants stems from any of their policies and blame on the Trump administration.

Despite the bad poll numbers for Democrats, former U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-SC, a Fox News contributor, said there seems to be an unwillingness from both parties to deal with the issue of illegal immigration.
