Jacksonville and Tampa Among 15 Cities with Worst Drivers in Nation

Results from a recent study by Forbes showed Jacksonville and Tampa, Florida in the nation’s top 15 cities for the worst drivers. Across the nation, roughly 117 people in America die each day in a car accident, for an average of one car accident fatality every 12 minutes.

“A car accident might only last a few moments, but the financial aftermath can stick with you for years,” Insurance Analyst Jason Metz said. “The national average car insurance rate increase is 45% after an accident with property damage, and 47% for causing an accident that results in injuries.”

Forbes Advisor compared the 50 most populated cities across five key metrics.

See below for more details on these two Florida cities:

  • Tampa, FL
    • Rank: #10
    • Tampa has the eighth highest total number of fatal car accidents (14.47 per 100,000 city residents) and the ninth highest number of people killed in fatal crashes (15.42 per 100,000 city residents).
  • Jacksonville, FL
    • Rank: #14
    • Jacksonville ranks sixth worst for both the total number of fatal car accidents (15.32 per 100,000 city residents) and the number of people killed in fatal crashes (16.23 per 100,000 city residents).
