Jacksonville Republicans Gaining Ground on Democrats

Duval County is one of eight Florida counties where Democrats outnumber registered Republicans.

The current number is 249,447 registered democrats with the GOP at 239,647, just under ten thousand,

Since a brand-new team was elected last December, the Duval County GOP has been increasing its presence in registering voters.

“The Republican Party of Duval County continues to create new Republicans all over the city. With our expert training team, voter outreach, and community engagement, we are closing the gap,” said Charles Barr, Chairman, Republican Party of Duval County

Since January, Barr says local GOP club volunteers have become more involved in community engagemen,t reaching out to black communities, Albanian, Cambodian, Ukrainian, Hispanic, Filipino, Veterans, and entering conversations with union workers.

“Instead of just talking, we are putting boots to the ground and listening to what these groups have to say,” said Barr.

Florida’s ever-increasing margin of registering new voters to the Republican side is showing up in Jacksonville.

Since December of 2024, when new leadership took over the local Duval Republican Executive Committee, that club has registered more than 2,000 new Republicans.

While the Mayor’s office went from GOP to the Democrats in 2023, the local GOP club has helped elect more Republicans to the Jacksonville city Council, where they enjoy a majority, and there are more GOP constitutional officers in the county.

The latest voter rolls reveal a trend that Democrats are losing a grip on areas where they have been in control for some time.

One example is Miami-Dade County.

Gov. Ron DeSantis won it in his reelection bid in 2022. President Trump wont it in 2024 and now the county has flipped from Democrat to Republicans where they hold a lead of 34% to 32%.

Duval GOP chair Charles Barr says their next goal is preparing for the 2026 Gubernatorial Election and the 2027 Municipal Elections.
