Jimmy Patronis Honors the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World

Last week, state Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis issued a proclamation and video celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World.

Opened in 1971 in Lake Buena Vista, the Walt Disney World Resort comprises four theme parks consisting of the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

‘I want to wish a big happy anniversary to Walt Disney World as they celebrate 50 years of magic! In 1971, Disney World opened its gates and turned the heart of our state into a world-wide destination and created countless jobs and opportunities for Florida families and businesses,” Patronis said. “Over the last 50 years, Disney World has enriched the lives of millions around the world and shaped a lifetime of memories through creativity, innovation, and charm that only Disney can do. Happy Anniversary Walt Disney World. Here’s to another 50 years of magic right here in the Sunshine State!”

PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, over the last 50 years, Disney World has enriched the lives of millions around the world and shaped a lifetime of memories through creativity, innovation and charm that only Disney can do; and

WHEREAS, on October 1, 1971, Disney World opened its gates and turned the heart of Florida into a world-wide destination and created countless jobs and opportunities for Florida families and businesses; and

WHEREAS, a modest crowd of 10,000 showed up for opening day in 1971 and by 2019 the Magic Kingdom averaged 57,425 visitors per day; and

WHEREAS, in Walt Disney World’s first 2 years, the attraction drew 20 million visitors and employed 13,000 in the sleepy citrus-growing town of Orlando and became the Action Center of Florida and the fastest-growing city in the state; and

WHEREAS, Disney World created an operation like nothing ever imagined before in the amusement park industry and has since become the world’s most-visited tourist attraction; and

WHEREAS, Walt Disney World is known as the “Most Magical Place on Earth,” and is one of the few places in the world where kids and grandparents can vacation together with neither group having to compromise much in terms of comfort or entertainment; and

WHEREAS, today Walt Disney World contains four of the most-attended theme parks in the world that in 2019 drew more than 58 million people to Central Florida; and

WHEREAS, the pace and progress in this ever-changing city continues to move forward, and it’s a sure bet that newcomers will be joined by even newer rides, resorts, shopping and dining experiences in the coming years.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Chief Financial Officer and State Fire Marshal of the State of Florida does hereby recognize WALT DISNEY WORLD’S 50TH ANNIVERSARY and commends them for being the ultimate family destination where the world’s most magical celebration will take place to commemorate the most iconic tourist destination in Florida and a place that every visitor will never forget.

IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF the Chief Financial Officer of the State of Florida has hereunto subscribed his name and has caused the Official Seal of the State of Florida to be hereunto affixed in the City of Tallahassee on the 30th day of September 2021.
